Kinga Dobos

Meet The Director

Kinga Dobos spent her childhood as part of the large Hungarian community in Transylvania (part of Romania) in the 1980s under the communist regime. Poor living conditions, corruption, discrimination, and political persecution forced her parents to flee to Hungary, leaving Kinga and her brother in the care of their grandparents. After the 1989 revolution in Romania, she and her brother were able to reunite with their parents in Budapest, Hungary.

In Budapest, Kinga's introduction to television and cinema sparked an interest in filmmaking. After high school, she moved to London to pursue this interest. Later, she relocated to Los Angeles and enrolled at Santa Monica College, where she was an A+ student for 3 years. In 2003, Kinga was one of the few selected to be interviewed for UCLA's undergraduate film program. She impressed the admissions comittee to such an extent that she was accepted into the program unanimously. At UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television Kinga made two short films. The second one, "Our Share of Night to Bear," was nominated for a Best UCLA Undergraduate Film award in 2005.

Kinga's experiences in the world have strengthened her desire to express herself through a visual medium. The polarities of despair and hope continue to inform her work and are the strongest themes in the stories she wants to tell.
